The effect of strong motion duration on peak structural response
Nonstatonary response of simple oscillator subjected to segments of random processes with different durations was analysed. The criterion of constant Arias intensity (constant excitation energy) has been applied. Both peak response & first excursion probability were computed. It was concluded that under constant Arias intensity the response is more dominated by the level of excitations than by the duration.
